A new legislative bill is making its way through the state legislature that will expand legal custody decisions. Currently, Georgia recognizes four main decision-making powers for parents of minor children in child custody cases for legal custody: education, extracurricular activities, religious upbringing, and non-emergency healthcare. The fifth and newest decision-making power will be which parent/custodian will control the social media pages of the minor child.
As you may recognize, this will be a controversial issue in child custody matters. Even in equal custody arrangements, parents would have the ability to split the decisions into two for each parent. With the odd number of decision powers coming soon, it may create an environment that leads to fewer settlements. The full ramifications of the new decision power will not be known for some time as well.
