Royston Family Law Attorney

Royston is unusual: the city sits in three counties, Franklin, Hart, and Madison. That means the courthouse for a Royston family law case depends on where the parties live. Samuel Thomas Law, based in Athens, represents Royston families in all three counties. Attorney Samuel E. Thomas handles each case personally, from the first consultation through the final order.

Which Court Handles a Royston Case?

A Georgia divorce is generally filed in the county where the responding spouse lives. For Royston residents, that usually means one of three courthouses:

Franklin County: Franklin County Courthouse, 9592 Lavonia Road, Carnesville, GA 30521 (Clerk of Superior Court, 706-384-2514).
Hart County: Courthouse Annex, 185 West Franklin Street, Hartwell, GA 30643 (Clerk of Superior Court, 706-376-7189). See our Hartwell page.
Madison County: Government Complex, 91 Albany Avenue, Danielsville, GA 30633 (Clerk of Superior Court, 706-795-6310). See our Danielsville page.

All three counties are in the Northern Judicial Circuit, so the same circuit judges and local procedures apply wherever your case is filed.

Parenting Seminar Locations

Divorcing parents with children under 18 must complete the Divorcing Parents Program before the final decree. Franklin and Hart county cases attend in Elberton; Madison County cases attend in Athens. The session is two hours and the fee is $35 per parent.

How do I know which county my Royston home is in?

Check your property tax bill, your voter registration card, or the county shown on your vehicle registration. We can also confirm it during your consultation.

Does it matter which county the case is in?

It changes the courthouse, the clerk, and where parents attend the seminar. All three counties are in the Northern Circuit, so the core procedures are similar.
